Program Description

In a patriarchal society, how do women make their voices heard? Despite challenges, women have never been truly silenced as some have been able to break gender norms, defy authority, and be heard. Consider this: Phyllis Schlafly and Gloria Steinem co-existed in the 1970s. This was the world my main character in Candlewood had to navigate—in the most patriarchal domain going, the Catholic Church. Today we have trad wives and nasty women. How does a woman find her power when it's easy to feel caught in an endless spiral of no return?

Attend this talk to hear Evelyn Ann Casey, author of Candlewood, discuss the power of women's stories.
